Evaluative Essay Final

Q ENG 132 Argument #2: The Evaluation Think of a time you’ve argued with someone about a movie, TV show, sports team, car, or even a restaurant. You were probably developing an evaluation without even knowing it. For this assignment, you are going to write an argumentative essay that evaluates a specific subject (movie, book, car, celebrity, policy, technology, music, concert, etc.). Essentially, your subject for this essay can be anything that can be judged as good, bad, or somewhere in between. Your evaluation is going to explain why you think your subject is good, bad, or partly good and bad. Make sure your claim/thesis is unique (in other words, not everyone should agree with your claim). Decide what kinds of criteria you’re going to use to evaluate your subject (look closely at the aesthetics, the practicality, and the ethics). For example, if you were evaluating a movie your criteria might be cinematography, acting, and storyline. On the other hand, you might evaluate a movie based on how much it made you laugh cry or scream. Remember, you will need to identify, define, and develop each piece of criteria you establish. •Research: Use at least two credible and relevant sources. One of these sources should be the subject you’re evaluating (the primary source). Try only to conduct primary research (i.e. research your subject directly. If you’re going to evaluate a movie, watch the movie again. If you’re going to evaluate a sports team, try to watch that team in action). Avoid conducting too much secondary research (i.e. looking at what someone else wrote or said about the movie or sports team). You want your essay to focus on what YOU think, not what other people think. •Length: 3 pages minimum (not including the Works Cited/References page) •Works Cited/References: If you evaluate a movie, book, album, (or anything else that’s been copyrighted) you need to use MLA or APA format to create a Works Cited/References entry and accurate in-text citations for that source, in addition to any other outside sources you use for this essay. Essays should be submitted to Moodle by the deadline listed in the module.

Marilyn Monroe, the legend of her times, and even today, should be known for more than her acting skills. It's not very surprising for people to immediately click on Marilyn Monroe when hearing the word sex symbol of the 20th century. Therefore one would expect to see something different, and unknown about Monroe when watching Blonde by Andrew Dominik. Disappointingly, the movie is one big affirmation of the already set image of Marilyn. An image she would herself be not very approving of. Instead of a biopic on Marilyn, it's tilted to be a documentary well directed to present the public's perception of Marilyn. There are various shortcomings in Blonde like no mention of Marilyn's skills as a businesswoman,
